April 23

A day among the trees

Publish=600 height=292 >

Yeah you guessed it, Im a little bit of a tree hugger. Ive even traveled 500 miles to meet a girl that lived in a tree for 738 days. She was worth it:)

I found two HUGE trees today, maybe big enough to be state champions. If you didnt know every state has a "Big Tree" list and just about every species has a champion, and theres national champions too, of course. Anyway I found a Sawtooth Oak and maybe a Post Oak that are about 16 feet in Circumfrence and Id guess about 500 years old..maybe.

I know these trees arent so big to those of you living among the redwoods but theyre pretty big for these parts. And I cant wait to spend some time among those again. That is going to be one of the highlights of my trip.

So if I get these trees named after me you can say you knew me when:)

He is much bigger in person, I can tell he wants to play with me though. Crazy Murphy probably think he could take him...he doesnt seem to know he is a lover and not a fighter.

Get used to shots of the dogs swimming. I can sit and watch them for hours. And they dont mind swimming for hours so it works for us.

Happy Easter!

I was fortunate enough spend mine with great friends swapping stories and jokes around a campfire in Fayetteville Tennessee then spent the next day riding.

Showing off. My attempt was not as impressive but luckily I was carrying the only camera so no one gets to see me scraping myself up off the ground...but not before taking a saddle horn to the sternum...Ill be remembering that for a couple of days:)

My buddy the vet, just graduated....free vet services at last!!!

And I had the best idea for a photo. The view from the saddle looking down at the horse, with all the buckles shining and our combined shadow stretching out beside us, so I raised the camera only to realise that now the camera's shadow was in the photo too, ruining the artistic element. So I put the camera back down by my side and it was beautiful again....raised the camera up and it was ruined again.

Its funny that the presence of a camera can ruin a good photo opportunity...yeah you can quote me on that:)

April 9...Just a day at the park, with Murphy doing what Murphy does.

Tannehill State Park

I think bridges will be a recurring theme on this trip.

Trying to be artistic:)

Colby was here.

If anyone needs a good used pacifier...I know where to find one.

Ok the most interesting thing to happen to me all week was a day at the DMV. I sure hope every DMV isnt like ours...where do they get those people? A bunch of low level government employess wandering around delberately trying to lure people into an argument so they can run and get a state trooper, then taking an hour long lunch break followed by 5 minutes of work and then another break and more insults.

Good grief.

But I did get to spend the day hiking with my dogs and if you havent met them yet, thats Murphy(Golden) and Angel(Lab). Murphy was named after my favorite Atlanta Brave when I was a kid....back when the Braves stunk. And an x named Angel....the only thing she ever did right....Jk:)

If someone knows how to photograph a waterfall and freeze the falling water AND get enough light to see the surroundings,...let me know because this is a beatiful place and THIS is the best photo I could get.

Still in a holding pattern til I get the green light from my doctor to put some miles on this trip, I thought Id take a trip through my home town.

A picture is worth 1000 words, so Ill save mine:)...(no one was hurt)

Ill have to learn not to drive down this dirt road. Its a dumping ground for unwanted dogs. Ive picked up almost 20 in the last year and found homes for them but Ive had to turn my back on just as many. Its a terrible feeling but I try to focus on the successes. Ill go back tonight and try to round these two up, if possible.

Cross your fingers.

Still cruisin.

Thanks for bearing with me, I cant go far from home just yet but this is a great opportunity to see a little more of what is in my own back yard. Often thats the part o the world we know the least about.

I spent the day at a Grist Mill about 20 miles from my house. I had passed the sign a million times and just kept on going so I thought today would be a great day to see what was down that way.

I was right.

I love this shot, from the bridge looking up the Coosa River.

I always have to check these old stores out.

Sorghum and honey, if youre from the south you know theres nothing better than a biscuit smothered in butter and sorghum...yummmm! So I bought the top jar there and its in my store now. I thought since you were coming along with me you might like souvenirs too..plus its delicious. I dont make any money off it, I just thought it would be fun so buy it if you like it...or Ill eat it:)
